'For Jie' is a short film diving into the mind of a struggling husband & newborn father in the bustling streets of Guangzhou. Born and raised into poverty, life is a continuous struggle for Biaojia. If given the opportunity, he would wish a better life for his newborn son, Jie.
Hiroshi Hara: was raised in Los Angeles, CA, where he started his filmmaking career by making short films and music videos with friends. From a young age, Hiroshi has always been intrigued with images and storytelling. He grew up watching a lot of animation and even began creating his own. When Hiroshi was given his first mini-DV camera, he quickly became engaged into the world of movie-making. What started off as a simple hobby turned quickly into a strong passion that prompted his move from California to New York, where he pursued his studies in filmmaking. During his studies, 2 of his short films which selected and screened at film festivals. He still lives in NY and continues to write and direct.
Chapin Hall: Chapin grew up in Hawaii where he was exposed to a great diversity of different cultures which instilled a powerful ability to work and collaborate with people of all backgrounds. He has studied and taught many forms of visual arts all his life, having worked as a sculptor, painter, animator, photographer, and graphic designer. He has also worked extensively as a cinematographer with digital video, HD and 8mm, 16mm and 35mm film. Focusing on developing many skills in challenging crafts allows Chapin to make informed decisions on the best method and media available to create what is needed and to streamline the process. This gives him the knowledge and understanding to find skilled people and effectively communicate and collaborate with them to reach the highest goals.
